MERIBEL BED AND BREAKFAST

BUDGET ACCOMODATION

SHORT STAY / SHORT BREAK

The "Chalet Neige & Soleil" is an old family chalet in Meribel( 2 dogs are also resident!) and situated in a truly fabulous spot , on the Route de la Renarde, 2 minutes (100m) from the Doron Piste (at the end of the road in the picture) and 10 minutes walk from the centre of Meribel town. Short stays and weekend stays are welcome. A short break in Meribel is now very easy to arrange, and short breaks have now become very popular with skiing ethusiasts.

(After new snow it is possible to actually ski down the road from chalet to the piste but this is technically against the rules and very much frowned upon by the Meribel cops, who will give  a heavy fine on the spot if they catch you)

It is a very simple, basic but warm & comfortable traditional wood cladded chalet in a very quiet spot. Note: Party animals must party in town ! (not the chalet). The lady owner lives in and goes to bed early. The chalet has 6 twin rooms and 1 family room for 3, all with small balconies and beautiful views of the Meribel valley. 2 twins can have an extra bed added making a triple at a squeeze. Note: With the extra bed the balcony door cannot open fully. The larger double has a separate extra bed, making the comfortable family room. Each room has its own toilet and shower. Clean towels and linen are included. Not provided: Soap, Shampoo, UK plug adapter. The chalet has a ski locker with boot warmer.
Breakfast is between 8am and 9.30am, simple and French in style. Cereals, tea, coffee, orange juice, toast, jam. The owner is very relaxed and will usually leave breakfast out if you get up late. Note: There are no cooking facilities here. Only a Microwave.

For young party animals we also have the perfect cheap bed and breakfast and cheap rooms only accommodation in the very centre of Meribel, sometimes at similar prices to those of this budget chalet. These rooms are not quiet however as you are in the very centre of the Meribel night life, which goes on till 01.00.

Directions for Driving.

Approx. 600 miles from Calais via Rheims. Take a look at our independent travel section for a route planner and weather forecast. Remember that all main road tunnels in France have speed cameras. If you do come via Paris there are usually speed traps near Charles de Gaulle airport both ways.

Fill up with fuel before you leave Moutiers for the 30 minute climb up to Meribel. The cheapest is the large yellow signed garage on your right 100m after you leave the major dual carriageway and turn right towards Meribel. (It also has spotless and very hygienic toilets).

Also add extra antifreeze to your diesel in Dec & January. We can get up to - 30c at night in Meribel/Mottaret. The garage diesel is usually ok for up to - 20c.

Be prepared to put snow chains on before the mountain climb if we have had recent new snow. Practice before you leave home. Carry a mat & lantern to put on the snow while you fumble around in the dark. In bad conditions the police will not allow you up without chains, or snow tyres, even if you have a 4 wheel drive. Chains can be purchased at major supermarkets on route cheaper than hiring them!.

If it is your first time driving to meribel you will pass Meribel Les Allues Village with its old church about 10-15 minutes after leaving Moutiers. Another 10-15 minutes will see you arriving at Meribel Town itself.

CHALET DIRECTIONS:

Get ready just after Dicks Tea Bar,(on the right) and also a garage on your right hand side with Spar Supermarket on your left. Immediately before you arrive at Meribel town, turn left, direction for the Altiport. Follow the road up for 5 minutes. You will arrive to

1) A sharp right hand bend

2) A sharp left hand bend

3) Another sharp right hand bend with Chez Kiki Pub & Restaurant on the corner.

4) 300m up further you will see Les Enfants Terribles Bar & Restaurant on your left. At this point cut across carefully to the right to the minor road leading down to Chalet Hotel Marie Blanche. This is Route De La Renard. Approx. 0.4 of a mile down this road you will have passed a sharp right bend and a sharp left hand bend. At the next minor  left hand bend you will see Grands Sorbiers, a large chalet on the right. 50m past this chalet you will see a small parking area and Chalet Neige a Crystal Holiday Chalet, again on the right side.Immediately after this is Chalet Neige & Soleil with a wooden porch and very steep steps winding  down to the chalet entrance.

Warning: This road and the steps down become very icy after new snowfalls/cold weather. The road is steep and narrow. Make sure you have snow chains with you, and drive very slowly. Parking by the chalet is not recommended in these conditions other than for loading and unloading. A free open car park is available near the town centre. (Ravines Car park). An underground heated car park with security cameras is available opposite Ravines , also at Chaudanne and Rond Point in Meribel and Le Hameau up at Meribel Mottaret.

PARKING:UNDERGROUND.

Last season price:

Approx 4 Euros per 12 hours.

A car is not actually necessary in town as the chalet is in such a convenient position. You can rarely find a parking place in Meribel anyway! NEVER park on the invalid reserved spaces. It's a VERY heavy instant fine, and your car will be towed away in minutes.

BY BUS:

From town centre, (by the Taverne Pub)take the free Meribel bus service (Direction-Altiport) to Les Enfants Terribles Restaurant then it is a 10 minute walk downhill to the Chalet, on Route Renarde.

TAXI. Always ask for a quote first. Be prepared as they can be very expensive. Approx 20e for 5 minute ride.
